Believing that every business, regardless of size, should be able to obtain high quality legal services at fair and reasonable rates, I established Whalen Law PLLC in 2016.
Over the course of my twenty-five-year legal career I have too often seen the high hourly rates charged by many large firms put quality legal services out of reach for many small and medium sized companies. Many ended up with less expensive, less experienced counsel, and hoped for the best. Few received the quality legal representation they needed in order to best protect their interests and achieve their goals.
My practice involves representing businesses of all sizes in a wide range of simple to sophisticated technology transactions, (focusing on software licensing, cloud computing, outsourcing, and data security and privacy), commercial transactions (focusing on supply, distribution, manufacturing, marketing and business process outsourcing agreements), and real estate transactions (including all aspects of the leasing, buying, selling, and managing commercial real estate), as well as, providing outsourced, in-house counsel services tailored to my clients’ needs.
Before establishing Whalen Law, I spent fifteen years in the Technology and Commercial Transactions Section and the Banking and Real Estate Section at Locke Lord LLP, one of the nation’s largest and most respected law firms. I also spent nine years as an in-house attorney (including more than seven years as General Counsel) at the Texas Medical Center corporation, whose mission is to provide coordination, support, and infrastructure to the more than forty hospitals, medical schools and other academic institutions, research organizations, and related healthcare institutions that make up the world’s largest medical center.
Prior to attending law school, I was a government, psychology and history teacher, and tennis coach at Memorial High School in McAllen, Texas.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking with my wife and daughter, and photography. I am also active in Houston Habitat for Humanity and the National PKU Alliance.
